Product shot of Pet Rock, fad from mid-1

Crossfit — legitimate fitness or the white people’s Pet Rock of the 2000s?

A few days ago, I received this response to my blog, “The Top 12 Reasons Why this 47-Year-Old HATES Crossfit.”

While it seemed like a strange comment for that particular blog, I thought it was a fair question.

I guess I’ll give it a shot. Usually a “fad” peaks and fades where crossfit has continued to grow exponentially for several years. At 55 years old I think I can safely say that crossfit spans the ages. Besides losing 85lbs and being in better shape than in my youth, what intregues me is there’s no boredom. Every day is a new adventure and everyday I can scale (adjust) the workout to my fitness level and goals. In my younger years I tried many work outs. All great until the boredom set in. No, crossfit is like nothing I’ve encountered before, neither the wods or the people.
As for the race component, you’re hung up on, up here is Mass, my box is a diverse bag of knuckleheads (said affectionately) female, male, white black, Hispanic, Asian, blah blah, that stick together like a family. I guess I don’t see color, just friends working hard together.
There are women that are so strong, (not just physically) >so inspiring, young kids in their late teens I admire for having this opportunity to learn fitness so young. There are gymnasts, competitors, and old farts like me just enjoying life…
If calling it a fad makes your couch riding more comfortable, more power to you but for me…Fad?? Hell no… You’ll have to pry the speed rope from my cold dead hands! Lol…And yea, I string double unders!

I have men, women, and children of all differing backgrounds at my box… White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Indian, small and tall, big and skinny… and we are all very friendly and we all help each other out. Where else in this land can you find that? I’ll tell ya, at your local Cross fit Box! So is this a fad, well maybe, but it will be around as long as Weight Lifting, Aerobic Exercise, and Gymnastics are here in some form or another…..
